There are several ways you can achieve long, luxuriant locks. Everyone is different and has different needs and wishes when it comes to hair extensions – and that is where Delightful Hair comes in. We feel that hair extensions should be for everyone, so we offer many different types of them. We have hair extensions with seven different types of attachments, so you should be able to find something to suit you. Below, you can read about how to attach the various hair extensions, and what might be useful for you to bear in mind for each method of attachment.
Pre-bonded hair extensions are finished strands of hair with wax-tipped attachments. You melt each strand you onto a strand of your own hair. The method is popular because it is gentle yet long-lasting. You can easily mix different colours to create a cool highlight effect or to match your hair's natural colour variations.
How to attach pre-bonded hair extensions: Section the hair. Using a protection shield, take a thin strand of your own hair. Place the pre-bonded hair strand underneath it and melt together with a hair extension iron for keratin wax. When the wax has melted, roll up the attachment with your own hair and give it a good squeeze. Make sure that there is wax all the way around the hair strand and that there is no air inside the attachment. Repeat the procedure strand by strand and section by section. Start at the neck and work upwards.
How to remove pre-bonded hair extensions: Apply the remover to the attachment and leave to work. Firmly clamp the attachment with remover pliers. Then gently pull or comb out the pre-bonded extension. Repeat the procedure on any remaining strands.
When using pre-bonded hair extensions, you need to be careful not to expose the attachments to heat. A long spell in direct sunlight, heat from the hair dryer or hot water, for example, can melt or loosen the attachments. The same applies to hair products on the attachments. Brush and untangle your hair with your fingers daily – both the lengths and the attachments – to prevent tangling.
Our tape hair extensions consist of 4 cm-wide strands with a self-adhesive tape that you attach to your own hair. The flat tape attachment gives you a really natural result and is even suitable for people with thin hair. Better still, if you take good care of them, you can also reuse your tape hair extensions by replacing the self-adhesive tape.
How to attach tape hair extensions: Wash your hair with only shampoo (no conditioner or oil) and dry your hair. Section your hair. Remove the protective film from a strand and place it against the lower edge of the parting. Lift up the strand and remove any loose hair. Place another strand of tape hair under the first so that they are sitting tape to tape with your own hair in between them. Press firmly. It is important to heat the attachments for 2-3 seconds with a hair straightening iron so that they stick to each other properly. Repeat along the parting and then proceed along a new parting until you are satisfied with the number of hair extensions you have.
When attaching the tape hair extensions, be careful not to touch the tape with your fingers once you have removed the protective film. And remember not to place the strands too close to your scalp, and avoid placing too much of your own hair between the tape hair extensions.
Removal of tape hair extensions: Apply remover to the entire attachment and massage it in. Separate the strands with your fingers or using a comb. Use more remover if necessary and then remove the tape hair strands. Apply remover to any remnants. Repeat the procedure on each strand.
The tape is sensitive to heat and hair products, so avoid these close the attachments. Brush your hair often and remove any tangles.
If you are looking for a simple method of attachment without glue, tape or heat, micro ring hair extensions are the extensions for you! Each strand of hair comes with a plastic loop and micro ring. The method works well whether you want longer hair, thicker hair or single highlights.
How to attach micro ring hair extensions: To attach micro ring hair extensions, you will need a pair of pliers and ideally a tail comb. Section your hair and take out a small strand of your own hair using the comb. Pull the strand of your own hair through the loop on the micro ring hair extension. Then pull the loop through the micro ring and ensure that the micro ring ends up about 1 cm from the scalp. Use the pliers to clamp the micro ring. The micro ring should be clamped so firmly that it flattens.
When attaching the micro ring hair extension, remember to put the correct amount of your own hair through the micro ring. You should feel some resistance when you pull the hair through the micro ring. If you take too little or too much hair, the micro ring will not attach properly.
How to remove micro ring hair extensions: Use the pliers to squeeze the micro ring in the opposite direction so that it opens. Pull the micro ring hair strand out of your hair and repeat on the remaining strands.
Stick tip hair extensions have narrow wax attachments, but are attached by micro rings rather than heat. Stick tip hair extensions give you long, luxuriant locks without damaging your own hair. And taking out the hair is fast and easy. Better still, if you take good care of them, you can also reuse your stick tip hair extensions. To attach the hair, you will need micro rings, a hook for micro rings and a pair of pliers.
How to attach stick tip hair extensions: Start by sectioning the hair. Thread a micro ring onto the hook. Using the hook, take a strand of your own hair and pull it through the micro ring. Then place a stick tip hair extension in the micro ring and squeeze together with the pliers. Be sure to give the micro ring a good squeeze.
How to remove stick tip hair extensions: Use the pliers to squeeze the micro ring in the opposite direction so that it opens. Pull the stick tip hair strand out of your hair and repeat on the remaining strands.
Weft hair extensions offer a wealth of possibilities. You can glue or sew them in or attach them using micro rings. By sewing in clips, you can also create your own clip-on set. With a little effort, you can get a hairpiece that is specially designed just for you.
Example of how a weft hair extension can be attached
Glue: Section the hair where you wish to attach the extension. Cut the weft hair extension to the required length. Apply hair extension glue to both the hair weft and your own hair, just below the parting. Firmly press the hair weft in place. Repeat until you are satisfied with the amount of hair.
Weave: Section the hair. Make a braid horizontally along the parting and secure it. Cut the weft hair extension to the required length. Thread a curved needle and sew the weft to the braid. Repeat the process until you are satisfied with the amount of hair. Start at the neck and work upwards.
Micro rings: Section the hair where you wish to attach the weft hair extension and cut to the length required. Thread a micro ring onto a hook for micro rings. Place the hair weft against the lower side of the parting. Use the hook to pick up a strand of your own hair and a strand of the hair weft. Thread the hair through the micro ring and squeeze with pliers.
Nano hair extensions have small, discreet attachments that are almost undetectable in your hair. As with stick tip and micro ring hair extensions, this method does not involve any glue, tape or heat, making it extremely gentle. Different colours can be mixed to create a natural result or a highlight effect.
How to attach nano hair extensions: Start by sectioning the hair. Thread a couple of nano rings onto the hair hook. Using a tail comb, take a strand of your own hair and pull it through the micro ring. Then pull the hair through the nano ring. Place a nano hair extension in the nano ring and squeeze together with a pair of pliers. Be sure to give the nano ring a good squeeze.
How to remove nano hair extensions: Use the pliers to squeeze the nano ring in the opposite direction so that it opens. Pull the nano hair strand out of your hair and repeat on the remaining strands.
Remember to avoid heat and hair products close to the attachment as this can loosen the wax encasing the metal loop.
With a clip-in set, long, luxuriant hair is yours in no time! If you want to be able to vary your look and to put in and take out your extensions as you please, the clip on is the perfect hair extension. A clip-in set consists of 7 different extensions with sewn-on clips.
How to attach clip-in hair extensions: Section the hair at the back of your head. You can back comb your own hair at the base of the parting so that the clip fastens better. Open the clips on the clip-in section and hook them onto the back-combed hair, pressing the clips to close them. Continue in the same way with the other sections. Start at the neck and work upwards, followed by the sides.
How to remove clip-in hair extensions: Open the clip and remove the hair section by section.
Take out the hair when you work out, shower and sleep. Comb through every day and remove any tangles. You can style your hair just as you normally do and wash it by hand in lukewarm water with special hair extension shampoo and conditioner.
